FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) Installs
Ultra High Definition-PhantomFocus MixRoom™

– Students and staff benefit from the new IUPUI School of Engineering's C.L.E.A.R. Laboratory PhantomFocus MixRoom™ on its Indianapolis campus featuring the new PFS™ Ultra High-Definition line
of Precision Monitoring Instruments –

– Carl Tatz Design has observed a trend in its educational MixRoom™ installations where more college and university recording programs are recognizing the value of offering the highest quality monitoring to their students and professors. Most will agree that accurate monitors are the single most important element in any control room, and learning to mix on the "Rolls Royce" of near-field monitors saves a huge amount of time and guess-work preparing students for their audio careers –

Nashville, TN: Carl Tatz Design has recently completed another one of its TEC Award-Winning PhantomFocus MixRoom™ installations at IUPUI’s (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) new C.L.E.A.R. (Critical Listening Environment for Audio Research) Laboratory in Indianapolis, IN. The room features the new PFS 3200 Ultra High Definition Precision Monitoring Instruments with beryllium tweeters and the THUD™ Pistonic Chamber-Damped Subwoofer System. Also featured are custom applications of the Carl Tatz Signature Series™ by Auralex which include the Acoustic Lens™ modules and SoffitPanels™ that are integral to every PFS MixRoom™ installation.

Dr. Doug Bielmeier, Assistant Professor of Music and Arts Technology at IUPUI School of Engineering & Technology and studio manager for the C.L.E.A.R. Lab, contacted Carl Tatz Design after experiencing the PhantomFocus System™ (PFS™) during his tenure at Middle Tennessee State University, which is now an all-PFS facility with seven systems running almost 24/7.

Dr. Bielmeier, who needed to knock it out of the clinically-accurate-audio park for the C.L.E.A.R. Lab project, comments, "The PhantomFocus™ Monitoring System has allowed our students to hear a clear and accurate representation of their projects and course work. When students turn in final projects, it's obvious who has been working in the PhantomFocus MixRoom™ and who has not. No longer am I receiving mixes with too much bass, over/under-compensated highs, or muddy midrange. It is important for students to develop their ears, and having the transparent and accurate monitoring that the PFS Ultra High Definition Precision Monitoring Instruments provide, has been a crucial component of this development."

Dr. Debra Burns, Department Chair of Music and Arts Technology at IUPUI, states, “The Carl Tatz PhantomFocus MixRoom in the C.L.E.A.R. Lab quickly succeeded in establishing an environment that fosters excellence and innovation as well as nurtures student creativity. Students have told me that having class in the C.L.E.A.R. Lab is the highlight of their week.”

Composer and violin virtuoso Robin Cox, who recently completed his new album Ghost of Time at C.L.E.A.R. Lab, says, "The Carl Tatz PhantomFocus MixRoom with the PFS Precision Monitoring Instruments was terrific – a beyond-first-class sonic environment for both the recording process and mixing.”

About the PhantomFocus™ System
Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. All speakers interact with the room they’re in, and the PhantomFocus System allows any monitors to perform at maximum accuracy - in any room - with a full 20Hz-to-20KHz frequency response and pinpoint imaging in what some owners have described as a “holographic sweet spot.” It is a new level of sonic accuracy that engenders easier, better and faster mixing that translates well in any environment.

There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus System implementation protocol, including phase alignment, system damping, speaker decoupling and isolation mounting, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to primary axial room modes, proprietary laser-calibrated speaker distancing and angle alignments, digitally-controlled crossover points and slopes for pass filtering, and, proprietary, multiband parametric equalization.

Hardware solutions can include monitor stands, concrete, Sorbothane™ and other isolation and damping materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer systems and custom digital processors. The PhantomFocus System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.

Carl Tatz Design installs the PhantomFocus System in existing control rooms and in all studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HD TV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus System, you can’t go back.
