Roland Displays JD-XA Analog/Digital Crossover Synthesizer

Advanced keyboard instrument features analog and digital sound engines

Summer NAMM Show, Nashville, TN, July 8, 2015 — Roland (Booth #924) is showing the JD-XA Analog/Digital Crossover Synthesizer–the newest member of Roland’s Crossover synth family, which also includes the compact JD-Xi. Equipped with analog and digital sound engines that can be used independently or interactively, the JD-XA brings together analog warmth and digital versatility in one instrument.

A distinctive crossover design offers two synths in one, for flexible creation of any sound imaginable. The analog and digital engines can be used side by side or layered together. They can interact in other creative ways, such as routing digital sounds through the analog filters or using them as modulation sources for the Cross Mod and Ring Mod functions in the analog section.

The analog side features a discrete, four-part engine with true analog filters. Each part has two oscillators, filter and amp sections, four envelopes with fast attack and response times, and two LFOs. Analog sounds can be routed directly to the dry output, or sent to the onboard digital effects for further shaping.

On the digital side, a four-part, 64-voice sound engine is powered by Roland’s acclaimed SuperNATURAL synthesizer technology, providing highly expressive and natural sounds. It’s compatible with Roland’s INTEGRA-7 sound module synth engines and custom INTEGRA-7 sounds available at http://axial.roland.com.

Each analog and digital part is equipped with an MFX processor that offers 67 effect types. Five system effects processors cover the essentials–reverb, delay, and master EQ, plus two TFX processors with 29 effect types each.

Additional features include:

  • 16-track pattern sequencer with real-time and step recording modes
  • Velocity-sensitive keyboard with aftertouch
  • Backlit sliders, knobs, and wheel controllers
  • Built-in mic input for vocoding or normal singing
  • MIDI I/O
  • USB audio/MIDI interface for integration with computer music software
  • Two CV/GATE outputs

The Roland JD-XA is offered with a U.S. street price of $2199. For more information, visit RolandUS.com.
