AUDIO-TECHNICA CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT OF THE WORLD’S FINEST ATHLETES IN BEIJING 2008
STOW, OH, August 25, 2008 — More than 3500 Audio-Technica microphones were used by Beijing Olympic Broadcasting in the coverage of the XXIX Olympic Games, August 8-24, 2008, in Beijing, China. Beijing Olympic Broadcasting’s use of Audio-Technica microphones for the broadcast of the 2008 Games marks the continuation of A-T’s Olympic involvement with the Games.
Beijing Olympic Broadcasting was the Host Broadcaster for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, responsible for producing the international radio and television signal, which is the unbiased television and radio coverage of the Games. This television production included the deployment of all cameras, the development of graphics and creation of the audio that was used to capture each sporting venue and the subsequent transmission by Rights Holding Broadcasters to their home countries.

Beijing Olympic Broadcasting used the AT4050 Large Diaphragm Multi-pattern Microphone to create both the stereo and 5.1 surround sound ambience at the Olympic events. The sonic details were added by using a large number of Audio-Technica’s shotgun microphones, including the BP4071 and BP4073 Line + Gradient Condensers, as well as the BP4027 and BP4029 Stereo Shotgun Microphones, both of which were developed as a direct result of feedback from leading broadcasters and field production professionals involved in past Olympics.
Other microphones supporting the audio setup included the AE4100 Cardioid Dynamic Handheld Microphone, AT825 OnePoint® X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone, AT849 Stereo Boundary Microphone, ATM350 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Microphone and the 5 mm AT899 Subminiature Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone. Audio-Technica wireless systems and headphones also figure prominently in Beijing Olympic Broadcasting’s Olympic coverage.

The Beijing 2008 Summer Games featured athletes from more than 200 countries competing in 28 sports at 37 venues, with media representatives covering the event for a worldwide audience of billions.
