Genelec Active Loudspeakers Chosen for Lady Luck, Blurring the Lines Between Home Cinema and State-of-the-Art Theater

— Massive Genelec speaker complement includes L-C-R array, 10 surround speakers and eight 12-inch subwoofers, all calibrated through a studio-grade QSC Signal Processor —

NATICK, MA, October 7, 2013 — When you step into Lady Luck, you are not going to the movies – you are instead transported to another realm of cinema experience. Designed by Slayman Cinema, and with its AV technology integrated and crafted by Cantara, this 45-seat luxury bijou redefines what is meant by the term “home theater.” And active loudspeakers from Genelec are there to redefine what cinema surround sound can be.

The audio system is a massive Genelec speaker array: three HT324AC Large Active Speakers make up the L-C-R array behind a record-breaking 18-foot-wide Stewart curved screen illuminated by a Digital Projection reference-level 3D projector; 10 Genelec AIW26 Active In-Wall Loudspeakers are used as surrounds; and there are a total of five subwoofers – a Genelec HTS6 Active Subwoofer is soffited beneath the theater’s front stage and four Genelec HTS4 Active Subwoofers distribute low frequencies evenly throughout the main level and balcony. Other technologies in Lady Luck include two AMX 5-inch wireless touchscreens located on both the main level and in the balcony, and audio processing through a studio-grade QSC DSP system.

“The room’s performance blows past any preconceived expectation of what a theater should sound like,” states Jason Voorhees, President of Cantara. “And the Genelecs are the only speakers that could fulfill everything that we had to accomplish in it.” Voorhees says the combination of the room’s massive size – the ceiling is 22 feet high, allowing for the inclusion of a 21-seat rear balcony with its own two pairs of AIW26 surround speakers and two HTS4 subwoofers – and its requirement that the theater’s sound be as superb as its visual aesthetics demanded a very specific kind of speaker performance. “It’s an extraordinarily large room, and because there is so much air volume, there are only a tiny handful of speaker manufacturers whose loudspeakers can handle the level of loudness that we needed,” he explains. “On top of that, we also demanded the highest level of finesse. When you put those requirements together, the answer is Genelec.”

Voorhees also complimented Genelec speakers’ sonic consistency, which was critical in a theater of this size. “Each speaker has a consistent sound quality across the entire model range – they speak as if with one voice,” he says. “The sound is uniform throughout the soundfield in the theater. That’s why for our largest theaters we use Genelec. It’s as close to natural sound reproduction as you can get.”

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, is celebrating its 35th anniversary of designing and manufacturing active loudspeakers for true and accurate sound reproduction. Genelec is credited with promoting the concept of active transducer technology, which many manufacturers are just now incorporating into their products. Since its inception in 1978, Genelec has concentrated its efforts and resources into creating active monitors with unparalleled sonic integrity. The result is an active Custom Installation speaker system that has earned global acclaim for its accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from small enclosures, true high-fidelity with low distortion, and deep, rich bass.
