Genelec Holds Weekly Webinars During COVID-19 Quarantine

— “G*Connect Webinar” sessions have covered such topics as immersive audio, subwoofers,
and loudspeaker selection, with more subjects to follow —

NATICK, MA, May 13, 2020 — As part of its efforts to provide valuable resources to audio professionals during the chaotic time of self-quarantining and social distancing, Genelec has been holding weekly “G*Connect” webinars. Hundreds of virtual attendees have logged on to the sessions, which are hosted by experts from the Genelec team.

Some highlights from the last few weeks of sessions include the following:

On Thursday, April 23, “G*Connect Webinar: A Complete Systems Approach to Immersive Monitoring Solutions” was hosted by Genelec Senior Technical Sales Manager Paul Stewart. In order to produce high quality immersive content that translates faithfully to all playback devices, users need a neutral, transparent monitoring system that is carefully optimized for their room. To demonstrate this, Paul guided participants through the configuration of a complete immersive monitoring system. Using Genelec Smart Active Monitors and intuitive GLM calibration software, Paul covered all aspects of setup, connectivity and integration of both hardware and software. Participants learned how Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) is able to configure, calibrate and control an entire immersive system to produce mixes that they can rely on every time.

The following Tuesday, April 28, Genelec held “G*Connect Webinar: Subwoofers: Why you need them, and how to use them,” hosted by Genelec Senior R&D Specialist Darren Rose. This session explored exactly how a subwoofer can improve the performance of a studio, helping material translate better to other rooms and systems. A well designed subwoofer offers so much more than simply “more bass”; not only can it help solve particular acoustic issues in a room, but it will also increase the headroom and SPL of a monitoring system, and reduce the distortion of the main monitors – which can then focus their energies on the rest of the frequency spectrum. Darren guided attendees through the principles, the benefits and the correct use of this incredibly important and misunderstood piece of loudspeaker technology.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, the session “G*Connect Webinar: Choosing the right loudspeakers” was hosted by Andy Bensley, Regional Business Development Manager at Genelec Oy. Andy guided attendees through the process of choosing a loudspeaker – discussing room size, listening distance, and the type of content users create or listen to. He explained the different technologies Genelec offers, how to “dimension” a system, and which models might be the most appropriate.

The next session is scheduled for May 14, covering Genelec’s W371 Adaptive Woofer System. For more information and to register, visit the following page: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8449341546397558032?source=COM

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, is celebrating over 40 years of designing and manufacturing active loudspeakers for true and accurate sound reproduction. Genelec is credited with promoting the concept of active transducer technology. Since its inception in 1978, Genelec has concentrated its efforts and resources into creating active monitors with unparalleled sonic integrity. The result is an active speaker system that has earned global acclaim for its accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from small enclosures, true high-fidelity with low distortion, and deep, rich bass.

Genelec is also celebrating over 10 years of its Smart Active Monitoring™ technology, which allows studio monitors to be networked, configured and calibrated for the user’s specific acoustic environment. Each Smart Active Monitor or subwoofer is equipped with advanced internal DSP circuitry, which tightly integrates with the GLM (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software application, running on Mac or PC. GLM’s reference microphone kit allows the user’s acoustic environment to be analyzed, after which GLM’s AutoCal feature optimizes each Smart Active Monitor for level, distance delay, subwoofer crossover phase and room response equalization, with the option of further fine tuning by the user. By minimizing the room’s influence on the sound, Smart Active Monitors deliver an unrivalled reference, with excellent translation between rooms.
