AES New York 2019 Welcomes Award-Winning Drummer, Producer and Musical Director Steve Jordan for Thursday Keynote Address “The Love of Recording”


— Drawing from his storied career, Jordan to offer perspectives from multiple
roles and genres with some of music’s biggest acts —


New York, NY, October 9, 2019 — The Audio Engineering Society has announced that GRAMMY® award-winning producer, Emmy-winning musical director, and A-list drummer Steve Jordan, will give Thursday’s Keynote Address, “The Love of Recording,” on October 17 at 1:30 pm during the AES New York 2019 Pro Audio Convention, which takes place at the Jacob Javits Center, October 16 – 19. Jordan’s career spans over four decades, playing with many of the top names in the music industry, from Stevie Wonder to the Saturday Night Live band, as well as producing albums for artists including Keith Richards, John Mayer, and Sheryl Crow. Jordan will also take part in Thursday’s Special Event session “Triple Threat: The Art, Production & Technology of Making Music” with legendary guitarist, songwriter and producer Danny Kortchmar.

Throughout his remarkable career, Jordan has recorded with the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Bruno Mars, The Pretenders, James Taylor, Diana Krall, Billy Joel, Don Henley and Chick Corea, to name but a few, as well as being a member of the original Saturday Night Live Band and a founding member of the World's Most Dangerous Band for Late Night with David Letterman. As a multiple GRAMMY award-winning producer and Emmy-winning musical director, Jordan has made albums for Keith Richards and the X-Pensive Winos, John Mayer (which includes winning Pop Vocal Album of the Year for Continuum), Robert Cray, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Los Lonely Boys, John Scofield, Buddy Guy, Booker T. & the MG's, Solomon Burke, Hubert Sumlin, Tom Jones, Patty Scialfa and Beyoncé.  

Jordan received an Emmy for his musical direction in Movies Rock in addition to doing Fashion Rocks, several Kennedy Center Honors shows, and the 2004 Democratic Convention, and he has worked as musical director/producer on films including Lightning in a Bottle, Cadillac Records, and has consulted on Standing in the Shadows of Motown. He is currently producing Solid Soul, a documentary on musical legacy of record producer Willie Mitchell.

Jordan and Meegan Voss are the founders of the independent recording company, Jay-Vee Records, home to the GRAMMY-nominated album Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm and The Verbs. Upcoming Jay-Vee albums include Tony Joe White's The Best of Times, Mix Master Mike & Steve Jordan Beat Odyssey 2020, and The Verbs' new LP Garage Sale, featuring two strong singles at radio, “Simple Kinda Girl” and “Pleaser.” They are also the Directors of Special Events and Development at The Jazz Foundation of America and advisors to the Little Kids Rock Foundation in New York. 

In recent years, Steve has produced Keith Richards' album Crosseyed Heart, John Mayer’s The Search for Everything, Bettye LaVette’s acclaimed interpretation of Dylan’s work, Things Have Changed, Josh Groban’s hit “River” from his #1 album, Bridges, and Sheryl Crow’s final album Threads, and he’s currently finishing production work on upcoming albums by Robert Cray and Bettye LaVette.

Additional production credits include Rod Stewart’s Soulbook, John Mayer’s Battle Studies, The Verbs' Trip and Cover Story, Boz Scaggs’ Memphis and Fool to Care, Robert Cray’s In My Soul and his live project, 4 Nights of 40 Years Live. Jordan was musical director for the 61st, 62nd, 64th, 66th, 67th and 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as musical director for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research Annual Gala, in addition to touring with Eric Clapton and John Mayer.
