Marina Bosi to deliver Richard C. Heyser Memorial Lecture at AES Show Nashville 2026

— Distinguished audio technologist, physicist, musician and educator to present the Audio Engineering Society’s prestigious Richard C. Heyser Memorial Lecture in Nashville —

New York, NY, September 23, 2026 — The Audio Engineering Society has announced that pioneering digital audio technologist, educator and longtime AES leader Marina Bosi will deliver the Richard C. Heyser Memorial Lecture at AES Show Nashville 2026, taking place October 30 – November 1 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout her longstanding involvement with the Audio Engineering Society, Bosi has served in numerous roles including AES President, Treasurer, Board member and Western Region Vice President. She is an AES Fellow and recipient of the Society’s Silver Medal. The AES Show Nashville 2026 Heyser Lecture will take place Saturday, October 31, at 5:00 p.m.

Bosi’s lecture, “Making Every Bit Count: From Psychoacoustics to the Technologies Enabling the Digital Music Revolution,” will explore how advances in psychoacoustics and signal processing came together to transform digital music, making it possible to deliver high-quality audio using a fraction of the data previously required. It traces how these advances answered a fundamental question — what do we really need to preserve in a sound? — and, in so doing, helped enable mobile music and today’s streaming services that reshaped how we experience music.

A physicist, musician, educator, and technology leader whose work has helped shape digital audio and music technology, Bosi is internationally recognized for pioneering contributions to perceptual audio coding and audio signal processing. She played a leading role in the development of MPEG-2 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), serving as its official editor and receiving the ISO/IEC Project Editor Award.

Bosi has been a Consulting Professor at Stanford University since 1996, where she pioneered the first U.S. university course on MP3 and perceptual audio coding. Her industry career includes leadership and technical roles at Dolby Laboratories, DTS, MPEG LA, and Digidesign. She has also held leadership positions in the Audio Engineering Society and contributed to international standards through ISO/IEC MPEG, IEEE, ITU-R, MPAI, and other organizations. Her current work focuses on AI-based media coding, immersive audio, audio preservation, and new approaches to describing and enhancing sound. Author of Introduction to Digital Audio Coding and Standards, she is a recipient of the AES Silver Medal and Fellowship.

Established in 1999 by the AES Technical Council and Board of Governors in conjunction with the Richard Heyser Scholarship Fund, the Heyser Lecture series brings eminent individuals in audio engineering and related fields to speak on a relevant topic of their choice.
