Nashville, TN, December 22, 2020: Jim DeMain's Yes Master Studios, a Carl Tatz Design MasteringSuite™, is celebrating its 20th year continuing a legacy of audio excellence. Throughout its two-decade history, Yes Master has thrived as one of Nashville's top mastering facilities and notably survived the 2010 Nashville Flood requiring a complete renovation of the studio while setting up in a nearby temporary location.
Yes Master Studios has seen a parade of artists encompassing all genres pass through its doors, serving projects by such acts as Robert Plant, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, Steve Earle, Alabama, Rodney Crowell, Michael McDonald, Jason Isbell, John Prine, Ronnie Milsap, Shawn Colvin, Marty Stewart, LeeAnn Rimes, and too many more to list. 2020 has been no exception: in spite of the pandemic necessitating the closure of its B Room, the mastering facility hosted new album releases for two new Jimmy Buffett albums, a new album for Mac McAnally, and two albums for Dolly Parton including the current holiday offering Holly Dolly Christmas. All of these projects populated the facility’s work itinerary throughout the year, along with a myriad of indie projects.
DeMain, an acclaimed Nashville mastering engineer, largely attributes the facility's success to what he refers to as his secret sauce, the PhantomFocus™ Monitoring System. “It’s the only piece of gear I have not replaced, with the exception of the new PFS digital platform upgrade after the flood renovation.” DeMain continues, “It’s my north star and anyone who happens to visit during a session and I seat them in the sweet spot, is blown away by its almost holographic imagery, low-end performance and insane accuracy that always translates outside the studio.”
Gear note: Yes Master Studio A uses Lapinski L-707 monitors driven by a Bryston 4B SST3 450 Watt amplifier with a PhantomFocus System-2 front-end all running at 220 Volts.

About the PhantomFocus™ Monitor System
Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ Monitor System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. All speakers interact with the room they’re in, and the Phantom Focus Monitor System allows any monitors to perform at maximum accuracy - in any room - with a full 20Hz-to-20KHz frequency response and pinpoint imaging in what some owners have described as a “holographic sweet spot.” It is a new level of sonic accuracy that engenders easier, better and faster mixing that translates well in any environment.
There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus Monitor System implementation protocol, including phase alignment, system damping, speaker decoupling and isolation mounting, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to primary axial room modes, proprietary laser-calibrated speaker distancing and angle alignments, digitally-controlled crossover points and slopes for pass filtering, and, proprietary, multiband parametric equalization.
Hardware solutions can include monitor stands, concrete, Sorbothane™ and other isolation and damping materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer systems and custom digital processors. The PhantomFocus Monitor System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.
Carl Tatz Design installs the PhantomFocus Monitor System in existing control rooms and in all studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HD TV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus Monitor System, you can’t go back.
