Capitol Studios Continues to Build Momentum with an Eventful 2019

– World-renowned studio facility continues to build its portfolio of projects with a variety of recording, mixing and mastering sessions, rehearsals and more, serving a massive range of clients across genres and specialties –

Los Angeles, CA, June 5, 2019 – Capitol Studios, the iconic and state-of-the-art recording facility located in the historic Capitol Tower in Hollywood, California, is serving a wider range of clients and projects than ever in 2019, with a variety of recording, mixing and mastering projects, rehearsal sessions, private events and more keeping the calendar full and exemplifying the facility’s versatility and eagerness to serve all corners of the music industry.

For several weeks in March, alt-rock legends Goo Goo Dolls gathered at Capitol Studios to track the band’s upcoming LP, tentatively titled Miracle Pill. Band frontman Johnny Rzeznik, Alex Aldi, Derek Fuhrmann, Sam Hollander and Drew Pearson served as co-producers on the project, alongside engineer Chris Szczech and Capitol assistant engineer Nick Rives.

Later in March, a special project was undertaken at Capitol Studio C to re-mix Miles Davis’ legendary masterpieces Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain in Dolby Atmos on the studio’s PMC Dolby Atmos® system. PMC worked closely with the Miles Davis estate to create these new mixes, which were unveiled at the Munich High-End show in May. On-hand at the sessions were PMC USA’s Maurice Patist, GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Dave Rideau and Capitol Studios Senior Engineer Steve Genewick. Davis’s nephew and noted drummer/producer Vince Wilburn was also present at the sessions.

Also in March, acclaimed composer Alexandre Desplat worked at Capitol Studios on the orchestral score for the upcoming Illumination Entertainment animated film The Secret Life of Pets 2. Desplat previously scored the first film in the series. The Secret Life of Pets 2 is set to be released on June 7, 2019 by Universal Pictures.

Additionally, Capitol Studios’ online mastering services have been being put to use by artists from all genres, with recent projects originating from Canada, England, Mexico, California, Tennessee and more.

Other notable projects:
A particularly busy day saw back-to-back sessions marking new projects celebrating Nat King Cole – first, Dulé Hill (Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk; The West Wing; Psych) filmed promotional content at Capitol Studios for Instagram and other social media outlets, preparing for Geffen Playhouse’s acclaimed stage musical Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole, starring Hill as Cole. Following Dulé’s session, GRAMMY® award-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter arrived to record a “virtual duet” of “The Girl From Ipanema,” adding his own vocals to those originally recorded by Cole. The new duet will be featured on a brand new collection, Ultimate Nat King Cole, released by Capitol/UMe on March 15.

In the week leading up to the Oscar® telecast, musical director Rickey Minor and a talented group of recording professionals gathered in Capitol Studios A and B to rehearse for the show and record certain musical cues with a 41-piece orchestra.

“Our 2019 has been very busy, with a revolving door of talent and different projects,” stated Paula Salvatore, VP/Studio Manager, Capitol Studios, “We take pride in our ability to accommodate just about any project, from rehearsals and pre-production, all the way through recording, mixing, mastering, video shoots and much more. The only thing that makes us happier than working with all of these talented people is to truly deliver the best we can for their projects and have them leaving as happy clients.”
