About Steve Lindsey:
Steve Lindsey, born in New York City in 1956 to famed arranger Mort Lindsey, began his musical journey at five years old, quickly excelling in piano and theory. Inspired by observing L.A. studio musicians, he set his sights on becoming a top session player. By 1980, he had established one of L.A.’s first home studios, producing demos for artists like Allee Willis and Brenda Russell, which launched his career as a sought-after keyboardist, arranger, and producer.
Over the years, Lindsey has collaborated with an array of legendary artists, including Elton John, Leonard Cohen, Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Billy Joel, and Joni Mitchell. His keyboard work is featured on iconic tracks, from the Jeopardy theme to Ray Charles’ GRAMMY®-winning “A Song for You.” He also produced hits for Aaron Neville, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye, among others.
In the mid-90s, Lindsey founded Blotter Music Publishing, pioneering original samples for hip-hop copyrights. He discovered and developed Bruno Mars over a seven-year journey, signing him at 18, while also collaborating with Dr. Dre and nurturing talents like Mike Elizondo. His ventures have yielded major successes, including Bruno’s explosive rise to stardom.
Today, Lindsey manages two licensing labels, A Tone and El Dorado, in partnership with Hans Zimmer, which generate seven-figure revenues annually. Based in Santa Monica, he continues working on film, TV, and music projects, including co-writing with Jon Batiste as well as supervising and producing major motion pictures.
