Westlake Village, CA (August 29, 2019) – The Guitar Center Music Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on granting instruments and other musician services to various music education non-profit organizations, has teamed with Seattle's Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation to honor the legendary guitarist with the launch of two exclusive T-shirts: the first features the representation of Hendrix from the block-long mural that adorns the exterior of Guitar Center’s flagship Hollywood store, unveiled in 2018 and designed by street artists Amanda Lynn, Scott Marsh and Patrick Griffith; the second features the original photograph that the mural artists used as their source material – a candid photo of the guitarist during sessions at TTG Studios in Los Angeles. This limited-edition merchandise is available in stores and online, with all net proceeds benefiting The Guitar Center Music Foundation and the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation.

"Jimi was an artistic dreamer. He turned his vision and what he felt into music, lyrics, sketches and paintings. His inspiration was broad brushed. The artwork seen in this Mural shirt reflects that, I think, beautifully,” said Janie Hendrix, President & CEO, Experience Hendrix LLC and Authentic Hendrix LLC and sister of Jimi Hendrix. “Working with The Guitar Center Music Foundation, we've combined the visual and musical to create something uniquely Jimi. We're extremely excited about the launch of these extraordinary designs that salute Jimi's creativity.”

The “Guitar Center Jimi Hendrix Mural T-Shirt” and “Guitar Center Jimi Hendrix In The Studio Photograph T-Shirt” are available now exclusively through Guitar Center in all stores and online at guitarcenter.com. The shirts are black and made of 100% cotton.

The iconic photo depicted on each shirt was taken during a recording session at the infamous TTG Studios located at 1441 N. McCadden Street in Hollywood. Established in 1965, TTG became a creative hub that captured the iconic sounds of LA artists such as The Doors, Frank Zappa, Linda Ronstadt and the legendary Jimi Hendrix. With one of the first 16-track Apex tape machines to be installed in Southern California at the time, and a rate of just $55 per hour, TTG became a haven for creative artists in Hollywood. Just six weeks after the completion of Electric Ladyland, The Jimi Hendrix Experience blocked out Studio B in October 1968 and began working on their fourth album.

The mural version of the Jimi Hendrix photo was unveiled in 2018 to mark the revamping of Guitar Center’s flagship Hollywood store on historic Sunset Blvd. It was dedicated in a special ceremony by Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu, with an official city proclamation honoring the mural, music makers and dreamers in a way that was uniquely true to Los Angeles. During the painting process, Scott Marsh remarked, “We ended up including some psychedelic elements in there. I wanted to use a lot of color. I wanted it to really pop. A lot of people have been stopping by and sharing their Jimi Hendrix stories and concerts they went to, which is really cool. Hopefully it becomes somewhere where musicians and fans can come and remember Jimi Hendrix and his music.”

David Helfant, Chairman of the Board for The Guitar Center Music Foundation, remarked, “We are honored to partner with the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation to offer these eye-catching T-shirts through Guitar Center. Hendrix is an absolute icon, and his art continues to resonate through music and our culture. To help contribute to the work of the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation is a privilege, and we hope that fans wear these shirts with joy and reverence.”

"Jimi Hendrix is one of a handful of artists that truly changed the course of the electric guitar,” said Jeannine D’Addario, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Guitar Center. “And through his innovation, his legacy continues to touch musicians’ lives. We’re proud to partner with the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation to honor Jimi's legacy and raise funds for these important charities who work diligently to keep making music, arts and recreation available to everyone. We are excited to offer these exclusive commemorative shirts for sale in our stores and online, and we hope people will be excited to wear them in celebration of one of the greatest guitar players of all time.”

In celebration of the launch of the first edition Hendrix T-shirt, Guitar Center Hollywood will also have Jimi’s iconic Black Widow guitar that was used during his sessions at TTG Studios on display now through September 2020.

About The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation:
In 2006, the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department renamed the nearly 2.5-acre neighborhood park located in Seattle's Central District, Jimi Hendrix Park, with the goal of turning it into a community gathering space honoring this Seattle-born artist's extraordinary life and musical legacy. The Park lies adjacent to the old Colman School, which since 2008 has housed Seattle's Northwest African American Museum. Now, a dedicated group of Seattle residents has come together to turn the dream of a park inspired by a "West Coast Seattle Boy" (the artist's own description) into reality. Named the Friends of Jimi Hendrix Park (FOJHP), the group has met for over a year, laying the groundwork for the development of a space that will draw visitors from across the globe. In keeping with the spirit of unity underlying the project as a whole, the Friends are committed to seeking community input into every aspect of the Park, from fundraising to design to programming. At the core of this project is the belief - embodied best by Jimi Hendrix himself – that with talent, determination and passion, anything is possible.
