Nashville Outsider Music releases new album Cactus Makes Perfect from recording artist Tom Schreck

NASHVILLE, TN, November 20, 2024 – Nashville Outsider Music announces the release of Cactus Makes Perfect, the new album of original music from Nashville-based recording artist Tom Schreck. Schreck’s fourth collection of original songs recorded in Music City, this album is an exploration of American roots styles: traditional and alternative country, Americana, Western swing, folk ballads, roadhouse blues, sideways gospel, and so on. The recordings were produced in a variety of settings, ranging from top commercial studios in session with some of Nashville’s top studio musicians, to quiet solo moments recorded at home.
“This is my first project dedicated almost entirely to music in the Americana style,” remarks Schreck. “This project has been a long time coming. Living and working as an artist in Nashville can be like immersing yourself in an advanced course in American roots music. So this is a record that I’ve been chipping away at for a few years, but really it’s been a work in progress ever since I moved to Nashville. All the amazing music and technique I’ve tried to absorb living in Music City, it all adds up to this."
The scope of production on this album is among Schreck’s most ambitious, with nearly three dozen collaborators, including vocalists, instrumentalists, technical personnel and beyond. The songs include “Grape Juice,” an outlaw country-inspired fable about untapped potential, dedication and timing; “Sandwiches,” a melancholic road trip fantasy; “Time’s Decision,” a Western swing romp; “River James,” a cowboy ballad with a supernatural twist; “Bought and Sold,” a chugging roadhouse blues; and “Soon the Beast,” a twist on gospel music tropes drawing from Revelation and eldritch horror.
Schreck has plans to keep his release momentum going, with a number of projects in various states of completion looking at possible release in 2025.
