SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2006) — Continuing a tradition of providing unprecedented insight into the creative process of record making, the Producers & Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy®, in association with NAMM, presented the 13th GRAMMY® SoundTable Jan. 21, at the Winter NAMM show. Anatomy Of A Hit: Hoobastank's The Reason convened key players in the creation of this multi-platinum album for a discussion on its creative journey from the inspiration for its songs, to their inception as chords and lyrics, through the production process, to the final mixes.

Founded in 1994 in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Hoobastank's unique blend of post-grunge melodic rock, tight playing, and rich harmonies earned The Reason two 47th GRAMMY nominations in 2004, for Best Rock Album and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. Sharing their insights into the creation of The Reason were Hoobastank’s vocalist Doug Robb and guitarist Dan Estrin, along with producer Howard Benson (Sepultura, P.O.D., Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects), recording engineer Mike Plotnikoff, (Papa Roach, P.O.D., Aerosmith, Motley Crüe), and GRAMMY-winning mixer Chris Lord-Alge, (Green Day, Dave Matthews Band, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow). The panel was moderated by producer and studio owner Glenn Lorbecki, Co-Chairman of the Producers & Engineers Wing and founder of Glenn Sound Studios in Seattle, which has hosted such artists as Tori Amos, the White Stripes, Garbage, Everclear, Dave Matthews, Green Day, Weezer and Moby.

Benson noted one of the factors that made the single "The Reason" an especially exciting selection to examine: "When you hear that song coming from the speakers, it's just an incredibly well-balanced recording and mixing process. No matter where you hear it, it sounds good, whether it's in mono or stereo, a large stereo or a car radio."

"This is an amazing assemblage of talent," commented P&E Wing Executive Director Maureen Droney. "It would be terrific to have them on any panel, any time. But to have them all here focused intensively on a single project, analyzing it from start to finish, provides the kind of understanding of the creative process that is usually reserved only for those people who actually worked on the project. Sharing how they made the The Reason puts everyone in attendance not only behind the console and in the studio, but inside the very essence of the creative process."
