AUDIO-TECHNICA TO PROVIDE MICROPHONES FOR NBC’S COVERAGE OF THE
BEIJING OLYMPIC GAMES
— Audio-Technica microphones enable NBC with capture of audio
for stereo and 5.1 surround sound broadcast during coverage of the Beijing
Olympics, August 8-24, 2008 —
STOW, OH, July 22, 2008 — Audio-Technica,
a world leader for microphone solutions for over 45 years, has been
selected to provide microphones to NBC during the network’s coverage
of the 2008 Beijing Olympics from Beijing, China, August 8-24. The announcement
was made today by Bob Dixon, Director of Sound Design, NBC Olympics,
and Dan Montecalvo, Audio-Technica Marketing Manager, Broadcast.
NBC will use several Audio-Technica microphones, headphones
and related products for their broadcasts. Notable models include the
AT4050 Multi-pattern Condenser Microphone, which will provide the discrete
5.1 audio bed from the venues for surround sound broadcast, and the
BP4027 Stereo Shotgun Microphone set to the XY mode, which will act
as primary camera mics. Other models include the AT825 OnePoint®
X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone and the AT892 MicroSet® Omnidirectional
Condenser Headworn Microphone.
Montecalvo stated, “We are incredibly honored to
provide microphone solutions for NBC’s coverage of the Olympic
Games in Beijing. We have worked closely with NBC at previous Games
in Torino in 2006, Athens in 2004, Salt Lake City in 2002 and Sydney
in 2000, and we are excited to continue our partnership. The Olympics
are one of the most highly watched events on television, and we believe
it speaks to the quality and dependability of our products that NBC
consistently chooses A-T microphones for these broadcasts.”
Dixon stated, “This is the first Games that are
to be produced totally in High-Definition and 5.1. Most households in
the U.S. will still be watching on standard-definition TV receivers
with stereo sound. Everything we do will have to be ready to provide
audio for both settings, and Audio-Technica microphones provide us with
versatile solutions. For 5.1, we choose to mic each channel separately
with the AT4050 because it gives us the detailed, clear sound that we
set out to capture — that is an easy decision to make, because
of the 4050’s dependability. For the camera mics, the BP4027’s
work well in stereo settings, like coach/athlete conversations on the
sidelines. Those mics really give a natural, active feel for the sound
in the space the camera is capturing. They allow us to present a sense
of spread and depth to all our viewers.”
