FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO’S NEW FACILITIES ARE ALL-GENELEC
— 19 new studios, control rooms and edit suites all utilize Genelec
8020A, 8030A and
8040A monitoring systems with 7050B and 7060A active subwoofers, joining
an array of Genelec 1030A and S30D monitoring systems in the original
broadcast facility complex —
NAB CONVENTION, LAS VEGAS, NV, April 24, 2006 — Minnesota
Public Radio, one of the nation’s leading public radio networks,
will be opening a new expansion of its facilities in St. Paul, more
than doubling the broadcaster’s headquarters to over 135,000 square
feet. Every one of the 19 new studios, control rooms and edit suites
is outfitted with Genelec monitoring.
“The goal was to achieve consistent monitoring throughout
a technologically and physically diverse facility,” explains Ethan
Torrey, Chief of Research & Development in the Research Department
of Minnesota Public Radio. “And we were able to do just that using
a variety of Genelec monitoring systems. The spaces are quite different,
from recording studios to control rooms to small edit bays, and each
needed very specific monitoring solutions. The unifying factor is that
Genelec was able to supply systems that addressed the requirements of
each of those spaces, and by going with a single provider, we have a
remarkably consistent monitoring experience throughout the facility,
and one that also provides consistency between the original facility
and the new one.”
In the new broadcast annex, four control rooms are fitted
with a combination of Genelec 8030A monitoring systems and 7050B active
subwoofers, and two more control rooms have Genelec 8040A monitors and
7060A subs. Two new broadcast studios employ Genelec 8040A monitors,
while the news booth relies on Genelec 8020A monitors. Ten new edit
suites are equipped with Genelec 8020A monitors and 7050B subs. These
join the Genelec 1030A monitors already in use in MPR’s recording
studio, and Genelec S30D monitors in the broadcast studios and control
rooms of the original facility, making MPR an all-Genelec broadcaster.
Furthermore, by April a new satellite uplink facility will come on line
featuring Genelec’s 8040A monitoring system.
“All of the Genelec monitors are great,” says
Torrey. “In particular, the 8020A/7050B combination in the edit
suites works incredibly well. The spaces are small and some have difficult
physical configurations, with countertops below and rack spaces above
where the monitoring needed to be situated. The 7050 subs really give
us a full-range listening experience in cramped quarters. And Genelec’s
support has been outstanding. They were here tweaking the system and
helping us meet out timetable to bring the new facility on line. Genelec
— the products and the people — really do a great job.
Bruce Bartone, Genelec National Sales Manager, offers,
“Genelec worked closely with Ethan Torrey at MPR during the critical
design stage to ensure correct product specification and optimum speaker
placement in each production environment. This effort was followed up
with acoustic system calibration to further ensure consistent and neutral
sound reproduction throughout the new and existing facilities. Projects
may now be moved to any room and critical audio adjustments made with
confidence.”
