GENELEC INTRODUCES ITS NEXT GENERATION 8030.LSE POWERPAK™ MULTI-CHANNEL
MONITORING SYSTEM
— Designed to be a compact solution for accurate surround sound
environments, the 8030.LSE PowerPak™ features Genelec’s
new 7060B LSE Series Active Subwoofer —
NAB CONVENTION, LAS VEGAS, NV, April 24, 2006 — Genelec,
the world’s longstanding leader in active monitoring systems,
is showing its next generation, comprehensive multi-channel monitoring
system specifically designed for postproduction suites and recording
studios with control rooms measuring up to 3000 cubic feet (H x W x
D). The 8030.LSE PowerPak™ system is a perfectly tailored solution
and simplifies the process of creating a new multi-channel monitoring
system or upgrading an existing stereo monitoring environment to
5.1 surround.
The 8030.LSE PowerPak system consists of five Genelec
8030A two way, bi-amplified active monitors, the new Genelec 7060B LSE™
Series Active Subwoofer, and a Genelec Acousti/Tape™ frequency/wavelength
measuring tape. In addition, a Genelec 8030.LSE PowerPak setup guide
is included for accurate speaker placement, wiring, and fine-tuning.
The suggested retail price for the complete system is $5400.00 US, with
availability in Q2 2006.
At the heart of the system is Genelec’s new 7060B
LSE Active Subwoofer, which employs Genelec’s proprietary Laminar
Spiral Enclosure™ (LSE) technology. The LSE 7060B is a bass reflex
cabinet made of a sheet metal rolled into a spiral shape and clamped
between thick MDF side panels. This construction technique provides
excellent laminar flow characteristics with minimal turbulence noise
and enables optimal packing of a very long reflex tube into a small
space.
Designed for professional monitoring environments, the
LSE 7060B features a new specially designed 10-inch proprietary driver
mounted within the bass reflex cabinet yielding a more powerful and
precise bass monitoring tool for modern 6.1 or 5.1 channel surround
sound or traditional stereo systems. With its 19 Hz (-3 dB) lower cut-off
frequency, high sound pressure output capability and versatile bass
management systems, it can be adapted to all low frequency monitoring
situations.
The 120 Watt power amplifier unit integrated into the
cabinet contains active crossover filters, driver overload protection
circuits and power amplifiers. The built-in bass management unit has
six signal input and output channels (L/C/R Front and L/C/R Rear), summed
signal output connectors and an LFE input equipped with a selectable
85/120 Hz lowpass filter and 0/+10 dB LFE sensitivity switch. The built-in
bass management unit also splits the six main channel input signals
into low and high frequency components, accurately dividing the input
signal between the subwoofer and main speakers. The dedicated LFE In
input connector enables easy set-up and accurate monitoring of the LFE
channel in 5.1 and 6.1 digital surround sound systems.
The PowerPak system also includes five of Genelec’s
new 8030A two way, bi-amplified active monitors. The 8030A is part of
Genelec’s revolutionary 8000 MDE™ (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™)
Series, which takes a new approach to enclosure design, driver technology,
and active electronics. In order to improve frequency and power responses,
Genelec has designed a highly innovative enclosure, featuring rounded
edges and gently curved front and sides. In addition to unsurpassed
frequency response, the minimized cabinet edge diffraction provides
superb imaging qualities. The 8030A utilizes an entirely aluminum MDE
design with integrated Advanced Directivity Control Waveguide™
(DCW™), yielding large internal volumes with outstanding mechanical
strength.
The 8030A is a compact close-field system featuring a
high degree of accuracy and exceptionally wide dynamic range. Powered
by a pair of precisely crafted 40 Watt amplifiers, the Genelec 8030A
monitors offer a wide frequency response of 58 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-2 dB)
from a 5-inch bass driver and 3/4-inch hard-domed tweeter. In addition
to extremely low harmonic distortion, the 8030A has a front-mounted
volume control, and rear panel bass and treble tilt room response controls.
The Genelec 8030A active monitors measure a compact
11-1/4" H x 7" W x 7-1/16" D (height with Iso-Pod™:
11-13/16") and are housed in a diecast aluminum enclosure, featuring
rugged construction while also providing massive heat dissipation capability
and excellent shielding against RF interference. Each speaker is also
EM shielded for additional protection when used in close proximity to
video monitors.
Also included with each 8030A monitor is the unique Genelec
Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler™). The Iso-Pod is a clever
mounting stand that allows for monitoring in either vertical or horizontal
orientation. It enables the end user to accurately aim the acoustic
axis of the monitor to the listener, as well as mechanically decouple
it from the surface on which it rests.

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology,
was founded in 1978 and has concentrated its efforts and resources into
the design and manufacturing of active monitoring loudspeakers with
unparalleled sonic accuracy. Genelec has been credited with promoting
the concept of active monitors, a trend in technology that some manufacturers
are just now incorporating into their products. Genelec has a complete
line of active main, mid-field, and near-field monitors for application
in the postproduction, project studio, broadcast, TV, and CD mastering
markets.
