NAB CONVENTION, LAS VEGAS, NV, April 24, 2006 — The Audio
Department, a leading New York City audio post-production facility for
over 25 years, recently added video editing to its array of services.
The new video suite, equipped with an Avid Adrenaline digital editing
system, was brought on line earlier this year. A key element in the
suite’s design is the inclusion of Genelec’s 8030A Bi-Amplified
Active Monitoring System. The pair of Genelec 8030A monitors gives The
Audio Department’s new video editing capability a sonic muscularity
that imparts a subtle but critical advantage. “Better sound often
results in improved video editing,” comments David Prentice, Systems
Sales Engineer at VCA Fusion, the New York firm that sold the Genelec
monitors to The Audio Department. “For instance, better monitoring
means you'll be able to hear differences in ambient sound that could
make a tremendous difference in the quality of an edit and in the overall
sound.”
Brad Petrella, Chief Technical Engineer at The Audio Department,
concurs. “We have used the Genelec 1031A and 1030A monitors in
our other studios, and we wanted that same level of performance when
it came to our new video editing service,” he relates. “The
8030A monitors are everything we expected they would be — incredibly
transparent high end and a smooth curve right down to the low frequencies,
which they deliver remarkably well considering their small size.”
The new Avid suite at The Audio Department debuted in
February and went right to work for a raft of high-end clients, the
first of which was the Sci-Fi Channel. “We need above-average
equipment to bring this suite across to the industry and position ourselves
as a company that can offer a wider range of services in audio and video,”
Petrella continues. “We want to use every advantage we can get,
and the Genelec 8030A’s give us exactly that when it comes to
audio for video.”
The 8030A is a compact near-field system featuring a high
degree of accuracy and exceptionally wide dynamic range. Powered by
a pair of precisely crafted 40-Watt amplifiers, the Genelec 8030A monitors
offer a wide frequency response in addition to extremely low harmonic
distortion. The 8030A has a front-mounted volume control, and rear panel
bass and treble tilt room response controls. Housed in a diecast aluminum
enclosure, the 8030A features rugged construction with massive heat
dissipation capability and excellent shielding against RF interference.
Each speaker is EM shielded for additional protection when used in close
proximity to video monitors. Like the Genelec 8020A, each 8030A monitor
comes complete with the unique Genelec Iso-Pod™ (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler™).
