ENGINEER/MIXER KEITH MORRISON CHOOSES GENELEC’S
RENOWNED DSP MONITORING SYSTEM

— Noted for his extensive work with leading Latino music artists, Morrison installs
a Genelec DSP system for its great sound and pristine accuracy —

NAB SHOW, LAS VEGAS, NV, April 14, 2008 — Keith Morrison, engineer/mixer for several top dance and Latin pop hitmakers, recently purchased and installed the TEC Award-winning Genelec DSP Monitoring System for his Kokopelli Recording Studio in Miami. Morrison’s credits as an engineer/mixer include Will to Power (1989 Billboard #1), Jose Luis Rodriguez (1991 GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Latin Album) and Andres Cepeda (2007 Latin GRAMMY nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Album). His new system consists of two 8250A bi-amplified DSP monitors and a 7271A Active Subwoofer, as well as the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™), a loudspeaker control networking system that features adjustment of levels, distance delays and flexible room response improvement equalization as well as Symmetrical Placement EQ™ with the reliable and robust AutoCal™ automated calibration system via the GLM control network.

A longtime user of Genelec powered monitors, Morrison says that the Genelec DSP Monitoring System and GLM give him more precise monitoring accuracy in a smaller amount of space, as well as the ability to control the way the speakers interact with the listening environment. “The GLM lets me adjust for a constantly changing environment in my studio, as people and equipment move in and out,” he explains. “I keep the system connected all the time and I analyze the room about once every two weeks. This is a mixing studio and the monitoring has to be very precise.” That precision is now enhanced, with additional high frequencies available from the 8250A bi-amplified DSP monitors and expanded low-frequency response from the dual 12-inch 7271A Active Subwoofer. “It takes me down well in the sub 40-Hz range,” he says. “I’ve noticed that the digital aspect of the loudspeaker management gives me considerably more precision over the analog. The [D-to-A] converter that Genelec uses is very music-friendly. I’m hearing harmonics I’ve never heard before. It makes the Peter Gabriel records I use as a reference sound like brand new records. And they were great records to start with, so that says a lot about how good this new Genelec DSP system is.”

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, is celebrating 30 years of designing and manufacturing active loudspeakers for true and accurate sound reproduction. Genelec is credited with promoting the concept of active transducer technology, which many manufacturers are just now incorporating into their products. Since its inception in 1978, Genelec has concentrated its efforts and resources into creating active monitors with unparalleled sonic integrity. The result is an active speaker system that has earned global acclaim for its accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from small enclosures, true high-fidelity with low distortion, and deep, rich bass.
