REVEL TAKES PERFORMA LINE TO A NEW LEVEL WITH
F52 AND C52 LOUDSPEAKERS
— Revel’s F52 3-way true full-range, floorstanding speaker
utilizes 5 proprietary transducers to reproduce the full audio spectrum
—
— C52 center channel loudspeaker delivers wide dynamic range
and is the
perfect companion for the Revel Performa F52 Loudspeaker —
CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS, NV, January
8, 2007 — Revel replaces the F50a and C50a in the Performa
range with the top-of-the-line F52 floorstanding and C52 center channel
loudspeakers. Utilizing a proprietary design, Revel has incorporated
an Organic Ceramic Composite cone material to reduce distortion and
optimize geometry for extremely smooth frequency response and increased
linearity. The new F52 and C52 loudspeakers are designed for use in
stereo or multi-channel applications and accurately reproduce the signal
source with minimal distortion and coloration.
The Performa F52 Floorstanding Loudspeaker
The heart of the Performa F52 is its sound — full, powerful, and
clean — which is achieved using three 6.5-inch woofers, a 5.25-inch
midrange (housed in its own sub-enclosure) and a
1-inch aluminum-dome tweeter incorporating a custom-designed waveguide,
each smoothly integrated with high-order filters at 200 Hz and 2.3 kHz
optimizing on- and off-axis response. The waveguide helps seamlessly
blend the midrange and treble frequencies providing an extremely smooth
response. Like all Revel speakers, the F52 has benefited from the extensive
use of the company’s R&D facility provided by Harman International
and the tools within, including multiple anechoic chambers, laser interferometer
analyses of individual drivers and cabinets, finite element analysis,
and the Multi-Channel Listening Lab.
Each F52 is individually hand tuned during manufacturing
and compared to the reference production standard. All units must pass
extensive inspection within a fraction of a decibel of the original,
thereby ensuring unsurpassed consistency from loudspeaker to loudspeaker.
The F52 utilizes advanced driver design resulting in lower
distortion and higher power handling. To greatly lower distortion, Revel
uses aluminum flux stabilization rings inside each motor static gap
flux field. And to even further lower distortion, copper rings are placed
inside each motor gap. Use of both rings maintains a constant linear
voice coil inductance during forward and backward cone motions. The
result is low distortion over a very wide dynamic range. Two high-grade
Neodymium magnets are placed at the center of the motor structure of
the voice coil to improve magnetic shielding, and to facilitate increased
heat dissipation for higher power handling, black-plated steel shield
cups are used.
The F52 is constructed of a 1-inch thick MDF with extensive
use of internal bracing to reduce possible cabinet induced colorations.
Minimal sound diffraction and optimal off-axis sound results from further
implementation of a rounded baffle design, allowing for extremely smooth
high-frequency reproduction. To maintain stability and further ‘tighten’
the sound, adjustable spikes are included. The critical goal of accurate
timbre has been achieved as evidenced by an extremely flat in-room frequency
response of 33 Hz to 18 kHz +/- 0.5 dB. This response is derived from
72 anechoic measurements, representing the F52 acoustic output at all
angles.
The F52 also features frequency extension at -10 dB @
23 Hz. All of this is achieved in an easy to drive load with 6 Ohm nominal
impedance and sensitivity of 87.5 dB SPL for 2.83V rms @ 1 meter.
F52 advanced features:
• Three proprietary 6.5-inch woofers with Organic Ceramic Composite
cones
• Proprietary 5.25-inch midrange with Organic Ceramic Composite
cone
• A 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter incorporating a proprietary waveguide
for improved
driving matching and high frequency output
• Separate filter boards for each frequency range
• Hand-tuned and matched units with tight tolerances within fractions
of a decibel vs. the
reference standard
• Real wood veneers in Natural Cherry, Maple or Black Ash finishes
• Removable gold-plated shorting straps configurable for bi-wiring
or bi-amping or single
wiring
• Gold-plated binding posts
• Low frequency extension to 26 Hz @ -6 dB
• Low frequency Compensation switch allowing for speaker placement
near walls,
hidden within entertainment centers or in problematic rooms.
• Tweeter level adjustment switch allowing for up to +/- 1 dB
in 0.5 dB steps
• Slim 9.5-inch wide profile allowing for easy integration into
most rooms
The C52 Center Channel Loudspeaker — a perfect companion
for the F52
Utilizing the same design principles and materials as the new Performa
F52, the C52 center-channel loudspeaker integrates perfectly within
multi-channel sound systems as the center channel loudspeaker for the
most demanding applications. Benefiting from the advanced uses of materials,
refined research and design, the C52 offers extremely low distortion,
smooth sound and high power handling capabilities. With a 0.75-inch
thick cabinet, internal bracing and high-order filters at 235 Hz and
2 kHz, the C52 center channel loudspeaker accurately and smoothly transitions
from octave to octave for timbral accuracy, both on- and off-axis.
The C52 uses two specially designed 8-inch woofers with
Organic Ceramic Composite cones, one proprietary 5.25-inch midrange
with an Organic Ceramic Composite cone and a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter
that also incorporates a proprietary waveguide assembly. Adding to the
attention to detail, Revel uses separate woofer, midrange and tweeter
filter boards, magnetically shielding the drivers, and hand tunes the
speaker to within a fraction of a decibel of the original reference
unit. The Placement Compensation switch offers three settings to accommodate
loudspeaker placement in a wide variety of home theater settings. A
separate High Frequency Level switch achieves precise balancing of high
frequencies for optimal timbral balance.
C52 Center Channel special features:
• Boundary placement compensation switch allowing for placement
within cabinetry
• Hand tuned to extremely tight tolerances
• Tweeter adjustment switch
• Adjustable spikes
• Magnetic shielding
• Low profile for easy placement, less than 11 inches tall
• Sensitivity of 90 dB SPL with 2.83V rms @ 1 meter allows for
modest power
amplification
• Easy load to drive with 6 Ohm nominal impedance
• Room response of +/- 0.5 dB from 60 Hz to 10 kHz
• Elegant real wood cabinet finishes in Natural Cherry, Maple
or Black Ash
